Intestinal Colonization of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms: Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Patterns of Bacteria Isolated From Healthy Human Fecal Specimens
The study found that the prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in the intestines of healthy individuals in South India was 57.04%. Klebsiella was the most resistant bacterial isolate, with ESBL, AmpC β-lactamase, carbapenemase, methicillin resistance rates being 34.70%, 12.37%, 7.90%, and 2.06% respectively. The study highlights the importance of regular surveillance to identify and understand the epidemiology of these resistant pathogens.
